| We know from experience that physical accidents, illnesses, and debilitating diseases are unexpected but inevitable events and conditions. And we likely know that though we can’t anticipate an accident or an illness that will put us out of commission, we can plan for the possibility…with health insurance.
With health insurance, we are protected in the event that we—or our dependents or partners—become ill or have an accident. Depending upon the types and amounts of insurance we invest in, we can find assurance against loss of income in case of accident, disability, and/or dismemberment.
The types or kinds of health insurance include accident insurance, disability insurance, dismemberment insurance, medical expense insurance, sickness insurance, and even accidental death insurance. That is, health insurance and all of its various types of coverage ensure income replacement.
The types or kinds of health insurance policies and premiums include coverage—income replacement--for unexpected and unforeseen dental expenses, disability, hospital expenses, prescription drug costs, surgical expenses, and most major medical expenses.
In addition to covering accident, illness, and disease, health insurance coverage provides for health and wellness, assuring payment of costs for maintenance prescription drugs, HMO and primary care physician visits, and ocular (vision) care.
Health insurance policies protect us by subsidizing medical treatment costs as they arise. Different policies carry different degrees and amounts (as well as types) of protective coverage.
Besides assurance against loss of income in case of accident, disability, and/or dismemberment, health insurance includes supplementing commercial Medicare, HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations), subsidizing rising costs of fee-for-service health care plans, and saving us from full financial burdens with support through preferred-provider health care.
Health care benefits include provisions for services, maintenance, and emergency costs. These benefits range from primary care to outpatient care to hospitalization and ambulatory and emergency services and provisions.
Our health insurance can also cover disease management, so in the event that we come down with a catastrophic, chronic illness, we are assured to prevent recurring symptoms and to lesson our needs for repeated medical services—assured to help us cover the costs of maintaining the quality of life we were accustomed to before the onset of the illness.
Health insurance is a line of a number of types of accident, disability, mental, dental, and vision-care coverage plans. We cannot plan when the accident or illness will occur, but we can plan for taking care when/if it does.
